Motorcycle tour to southern Germany and Luxembourg – Day 2

A hot day, with the first impressions of the curvy roads

The route

The route was from Mannheim to Neuenburg am Rhein; a trip of about 340 kilometers. We started with 100 kilometers of highway, with the intention of finishing the rest on curvy roads.

We can dream of the highway by now, so we wanted to get off as soon as possible. The route included the first 100 kilometers of highway, and with the expected temperatures, that driving breeze was quite nice.

Once we were on the winding back roads, they turned out to be well maintained. The roads were smooth, clean and invited us to tear through the curves. The hairpin turns, rolling landscape and stunning views made it a pleasure to drive here.

Along the way, it was pointed out to me that my brake light stayed on. I found out that it came on as soon as my heel touched the brake pump guard. Since I could ride it just fine (and was not bothered by it myself), I decided to look into this further at the hotel in the evening.

Along the way we spotted the Red Kite again, a  medium-large bird of prey that lives in this area, with it’s distinctive triangular tail. We also spotted this bird many times on the previous motorcycle vacation, when we were in the IJffel area. A beautiful creature!

Due to tight time we made the last stretch directly to the hotel, including another portion of highway.

Around 17:15 we arrived at the hotel. While my mates were checking us in, I took a quick look at the brake light. It turned out that the sensor was adjusted very sensitively. I managed to fix this just fine, tomorrow on the road I will check if I am really such a good mechanic….

After freshening up, it was time for a refreshing drink on the hotel terrace. We would be staying at this hotel for the next 4 nights, so we decided to check out what the village has to offer in terms of restaurants. Tonight we ended up on the terrace of a small and cozy restaurant, where we ate a big German cordon-bleu.

We spotted a lounch bar on the map, where we wanted to end the evening. So we walked here, with a pit stop at an ice cream shop. In the end, this bar was disappointing, so we finished the evening with a final drink on the hotel terrace.
