Motorcycle tour to southern Germany and Luxembourg – Day 5

Nice short and relaxed route. A chill last day in Neuenburg Am Rhein

The route

The objective today is to ride the Blauwenberg in the Black Forest. We have passed here once before this week, but have not yet ridden up here. Through a nice winding route of about 155 kilometers, we have a stop at the top of this Blauwenberg near the end of the route to enjoy the view.

The story

This morning I woke up early, a perfect opportunity to work on this blog! Nice and quiet waking up on the patio, and over a cup of coffee quietly updating this blog.

After breakfast and making the route, we started getting ready for the ride. One of our mates unfortunately couldn’t ride with us, due to stomach problems. Around 9:30 we started driving eastward.

Along the way, of course, we had to refuel. We stopped at a gas station in Todtmoos, and at the same time took care of the inner man with a coffee and a pritzel. As usual – and this is a free tip for everyone doing a motorcycle trip – we do a preventive peeing before riding. This time in a very cosy toilet…

Along the way, we stopped a few more times, for some “Windows XP” like scenery.

About 20 kilometers before the hotel, we took the turnoff to the top of Blauwenberg Mountain. At the top of this mountain was an observation tower built in 1895. Of course, as a mechanical engineer and techie, I could only admire the techniques used to build the tower at that time. From the twisted corner sections to the many rivets used; very intriguing!

This tower took us another 25 meters or so higher, giving us a breathtaking view of the Rein valley. On the other side of this valley, we could see the Grand Ballon, where we had ridden earlier in the week. You could also see part of the Alps from here, including Mont Blanc.

Paragliders also took off from this summit. Because of the wind and thermals, they climbed to high altitudes in a short time, and soon flew so far away that we could hardly see them!

Around 16:15 we were back at the hotel, able to rest, freshen up, have a drink before we had dinner at an Asian restaurant. Here I had a delicious crispy duck in red pepper cream sauce with noodles. Sometimes it is pleasantly surprising to try new things!

After a walk to an observation tower in the village, and through the adjacent park with skate park, we ended up on the terrace of our hotel to end our stay in Neuenburg am Rhein. Tomorrow we will travel on to Luxembourg, where 3 more motorcycle friends will join our company.
