A long run, with 390 km of windy roads, highway and long fast corners, pittoresk villages, fog and more...
The route
By the end of the day we are – about 425 kilometers away – in Luxembourg. The first part we’ll take inland roads, then we’ll drive the rest as fast as possible to our final destination.
The trip
Today promised to be a long ride, starting with winding roads through the Vosges Mountains, lots of fog on the Grand Ballon, long and fast turns, and through many villages.
We passed the Grand Ballon again. This time visibility was considerably less due to fog. The fog was so dense in some places that it was even difficult to see the motorcycles in front of you on the road.
After lunch at a local bakery – about 175 kilometers on the road – we decided to drive as fast as possible to a highway first, and then the rest of the route on the highway to Luxembourg.
We managed to skip the rain, but did get a few small drops. Nothing serious, and certainly nothing like in the Netherlands. There was a lot of rain in some parts of the Netherlands! I’m glad to be here….
Other than that, we experienced few remarkable events along the way. It was mostly long and boring stretches of highway, and a little cooler than our days in the Black Forest.
Around 17:15 we arrived at the hotel in Esch-sur-Sûre, Luxembourg, where we reunited with the rest of the pack. Here we took the keys, put the bikes in the garage, tuned up another one of the bikes a bit, and went to the rooms to freshen up.
While we waited for the group to be complete again, we shared stories over a well-deserved beer and figured out what to do for dinner.
Half the group walked to an Italian restaurant about 3 kilometers away. Since one of the biker mice is pregnant, she is by car this vacation. The other half of the group drove with her to the restaurant. It was a pleasant walk, across a campsite along a narrow river. At the restaurant I had a delicious pasta pesto, in a bowl of bread.
The way back we walked back again. A nice bit to stretch our legs for a while. We ended the day in the lounge area of the hotel.
